Textiles and Other Absorbent Surfaces
Clothing and textile materials can not only be carriers of micro-organisms but also are good media for the growth of micro-organisms. When microbes grow to high numbers in clothing and textiles, they can cause unwanted odor.
LIFE offers technology that can be durably incorporated into synthetic fibers produced by melt extrusion to eliminate unwanted odors for the life of the garment.
LIFE has also developed antimicrobial textile treatments that durably bind effective antimicrobial ingredients to textiles and leather. The treatments, which lasts through frequent launderings, are applied during the dyeing or finishing of textiles, and during the tanning process for leather.
LIFE surface finishes for textiles and leather can be applied to all types of fiber constructions and are compatible with most finishing agents, including flame retardant finishes and all resin systems and softeners normally used in textile finishing.
The most commonly used test standards for antibacterial activity of textiles are AATCC 100, JIS L 1902 and ISO 20743. AATCC 30 is commonly used to verify the antifungal activity of textiles.
